CHOCOLATE HILLS

But, there’s more to just appreciating the wondrous views of this picturesque landscape. It’s also important to understand why this long stretch of grassy hills is globally known.
What makes the Chocolate Hills famous?
Curious why it’s called the Chocolate Hills when it’s not really made of chocolates? It’s because these hills, which are usually covered in green grass, dry up and turn chocolatey brown in color during the dry season. There are more than a thousand hills spread over an area of 50 square kilometers in the towns of Carmen, Batuan, and Sagbayan in Bohol. And, while the hills do vary in size, looking at these from afar, it seems like they’re almost symmetrical in shape. This results in a majestic landscape that might make you think it’s a man-made creation. It’s common for Filipinos to talk about myths and legends surrounding a particular place, especially if its origin is unknown or there’s no single explanation behind it. While some argue that these legends were only told to satisfy the curiosity of Filipino children, others claim that it’s somewhat a half-truth story.
The story behind the origins of the pride of the Visayan Region is no exception. According to legends, the hills came into existence because of two feuding giants who hurled rocks, boulders, and sand at each other.
After their fight was over, this eventually led to a huge mess of hills – which is the Chocolate Hills we know today. Another legend claims what really transpired was a heartbroken giant cried a lot of tears which led to the formation of these limestone hills. The third legend though is hard to imagine for some – they say these hills were dried feces of carabaos.Of course, you will want to see the hills when they’re chocolate brown in color – which is the dry season in the Philippines. This season begins in late November and lasts until May. However, it’s still best to check for weather updates when traveling in the Philippines because weather often gets unpredictable.

Twin Hanging Bridge.

The Philippines is an amazing tourist destination, well known for its pristine beaches and crystal-clear water. Out of more than 7,000 Philippines islands, Bohol is one of the most visited ones.
Bohol is mostly famous for the Chocolate Hills but there are some other awesome places on the island which are worth visiting too. If you have time head to the Man Made Forest, explore Alona Beach, admire the Dimiao Twin Falls or cross the Sipatan Twin Hanging Bridge. Also known as Tigbao Hanging Bridge, the Twin Hanging Bridge or simply as the Bambo Hanging Bridge of Bohol, this is one of the most popular tourist attractions on the island. In this guide, we’ll talk about everything you need to know before visiting it.The view is pretty incredible. The Bohol Hanging Bridge is surrounded by lush greenery. I must say – the place is pretty crowded with tourists, both locals and foreigners. If you want to have the place to yourself, make sure to be there early in the morning. When I first arrived at the Hanging Bridge in Bohol, my first impression was that it doesn’t look safe. I had these 40-meter long bamboo bridges in front of my eyes with around 40-50 people crossing them. It looked sketchy. However, the bridges are safe. Sometimes you can see small motorcycles crossing them. Even though the bridges have become a tourist attraction, locals still use them to cross the Sipatan River.
Don’t worry if the bridges are slowly bouncing when you’re crossing them. The support cables are made of steel and they’re safe. Enjoy the experience!
Near the Bohol Bamboo Bridge, you can find lots of stores selling snacks and refreshments. If you’re thirsty, get a fresh coconut!

MAN MADE FOREST

The Loboc-Bilar man-made forest plays host to many visitors, locals and foreigners alike who take time to view it from the road and take pictures. The Metro Manila filmmakers often use the forest as a backdrop for some of their action films. Other groups go hiking thru the woods and up the mountain. Mountain bikers often use the wide asphalt road that traverse the forest aside from the day-to-day buses and public transport that ply between the towns.
The Bohol Forest is a man-made mahogany forest stretching in a two-kilometer stretch of densely planted Mahogany trees located in the border of Loboc and Bilar towns. Before and after this man-made forest are the naturally grown forests of Loboc and Bilar which are thick with a kaleidoscope of green foliage, different species of trees and giant ferns lining the road.
The man-made forest stands out because of the uniformity in height of the big trees, the spread of its branches, thickness and design of leaves. Seedlings abound around the older trees. Trunks, some thick and others just a few months old, grow resplendently straight up towards the sky which is obscured by the branches and the thick leaves. The terrain from both side of the road goes up; to I don’t know how high. What you see are only the Mahogany trees that look like thousands of sentinels guarding the road, standing erect. No other vegetation is growing among the Mahogany trees. One only sees the brown trunks stretching forth from the earth and the green canopy above. And that’s what makes them look so attractive!
The roots of the trees are beautiful to look at as they protrude from the ground and crawl over boulders and contour of the land, even reaching the sides of the road. Looking at them gives you the creeps. Like tentacles of a giant octopus, the roots seem to reach out and grasp the unwary passersby, as what happened in the “Lord of the Rings” movie.
